I second Sasun's comments.  Past couple of weeks have seen a much lower
incidence of email queue constipation.  If some Linden fixed something, it
sure would be nice to know about.  Or did the problem just randomly go away,
meaning its likely to come back again. Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks also to Sasun for the suggestion to add a monitor to products that
checks for this condition. Will consider that for my next update, although
it's a shame it is necessary to monitor the behavior of an LSL function that
is just supposed to work as advertised.

Things seem to have calmed down. I'm constantly monitoring incoming email
queue cloggage in the one region where this was a problem before Xmas.
Since then I've had one server clog up but the rest of them are fine.

it just makes no sense why there'd suddenly be this big spike in clogging
after years of relatively smooth sailing then it goes away mostly. Who
knows when it will strike again. I sure feel better knowing for sure
whether they are all unclogged or not. Next time you whip up a simple email
based server you should add in a little "ping" type handler so later you
can make a little email server poller to check your servers if that becomes
a problem for you too.

Re: [slscripters] secondlifescripters Digest, Vol 89, Issue 1

Yeah that's now a "necessary evil" for all my email based updaters 'n stuff from now on. Exactly the same as the need to test your http servers' supposedly valid URL on a regular basis to make sure it actually works. Either your email queue clogs or your http URL suddenly stops working, take your pick. Polling/monitoring to make sure they work is just essential or you'll be screwed eventually. It's just an unnecessary waste, albeit a small one, of server script resources to be polling everything 24/7 so you know when things go wrong. Not to mention the rediculous waste of time we all have to take in writing all that code to do the polling and communication between objects, and do it correctly.

Would be nice if LL decided to fix that old email queue bug, I just can't imagine how it can literally be that complicated that it has managed to elude the finest minds at LL. I can't imagine the cumulative time wasted by all the LSL scripters over the years that have ever written an email based server, scratching their heads and running around in circles wondering why it's not getting any email, wondering what they did wrong in their code.
